Narration

The definition of narration is the act of telling a story or describing what is happening in a part of a movie, show etc. to describe what's being seen.

In our play we used narration in the beginning of the play to show what is happening in the play and also in some parts of the play we would all stop talking while the narrator would describe what is happening.

The effect I waned the narration to have on the audience was to make them have an insight to what is happening in the story and why, so they understand what exactly is going on and the reason behind it.

How the narration worked in the performance and if it was successful or not will be posted once the performance is shown.

Thought tracking and cross cutting

Thought tracking is when a character is speaking out load on their inner thoughts at a particular moment, to inform the audience about the character.

In our performance we used thought tracking when Marcia would start talking about how she felt about the bully.

Cross cutting  is an editing technique most often used in films to establish action occurring at the same time in two different locations.

In our play we used cross cutting when Gabor, ulan and I would talk about how he is innocent and how he isn't the bully but he actually is and then freezing while Marcia talked about her feelings and so on.

Breathing exercising for vocals

Take a deep breath
Hold your breath and relax
Exhale slowly

- Lie on your back, knees bent, feet on the floor. One hand on your chest, the other on your stomach
- Breathe slowly in and out. You want the hand on your stomach to move much more than the hand on your chest.

In voice acting, knowing how to breathe properly is very crucial.
Breathing properly allows the actor to be able to change their voice in different ways and project their voice. This will allow you to be flexible and versatile which gives you a higher chance of giving a more effective performance.

Feelings of people affected from lost Malaysian airline

Search team member
Family member of pilot
Journalist covering story
Family member of one of passengers

Search team members may be feeling eager to find the missing flight but starting to feel hopeless at the same time.

The family members of the pilot are feeling depressed but also may be feeling overwhelmed as the pilot is blamed for the missing flight.

The journalist covering the story may feel lost on what to write about the missing flight as there isn't much information.

The family of one of the passengers may feel depressed and grieving but at the same time have little hope that they will be found.

Reflection on monologues

A: Knowing and understanding
B: Developing skills
C: Thinking creatively

Kalani:
A: 1/8 kalani didn't know his script and was reading off it
B: 2/8 he mumbled while talking but showed very minimal expression
C: 3/8 didn't try to act into his character and change

Mariam:
A: 7/8 she knows what she's saying and memorizes the script
B: 7/8 she uses a lot of facial expression and good hand gestures
C: 7/8 she put herself in the character very well

Gustav:
A: 6/8 he knew his script but forgot some parts
B: 4/8 he didn't show that much expression and hand gestures
C: 5/8 he got into character but kept touching his chest

Moody:
A: 6/8 he knew his lines but sometimes hesitated a bit
B: 4/8 he didn't really show much expression and gestures
C: 4/8 he sort of got into character but not as much that was expected

Alberto:
A: 4/8 Alberto sort of knew his script but still had to read it
B: 5/8 he didn't show much hand gestures but did show some expression towards his character
C: 6/8 Alberto got into character well but not that well

In my monologue I think I should've got 6/8, 6/8, 6/8 and that is also what I think the teacher will give me as I didn't know my script fully memorized but I didn't have to read off everything, I used expressions and embraced the character but I didn't use much hand gesture, I got into character well and did what the character would've done.
